John Dean Kurabelis

John Dean Kurabelis, 84, of Baraboo, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at his residence. John was born on Sept. 21, 1929 in Waukesha. On July 20, 1958, he was united in marriage to Shelby Jean Janzen in Baraboo. John was employed in building construction and had worked for several companies in the Sauk county area. Later in his career, John worked as an iron worker at the Badger Army Ordnance Ammunition plant for over 20 years before retiring. Some of his hobbies included listening to Blue Grass music, playing his guitar and smoking a good cigar. John loved the outdoors and enjoyed feeding the birds and the squirrels. He was an avid Packer fan will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Shelby of Baraboo, he is survived by four children, Juanita (Rick) Plouffe of Wisconsin Dells, Kenneth Kurabelis of Baraboo, Judith “Judy” (Michael) Tangney of Baraboo, and Cyndi (Jarad) Nielson of Madison; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Muriel Gallagher. In keeping with John’s wishes, he will be cremated with no services being held. The Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., in Baraboo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
