William C. “Bill” Wresch III

Baraboo, WI. – William C. “Bill” Wresch III, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at his residence. Bill was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 16, 1947, the son of William Wresch II and Joan Martin.

He spent his teen years working at his father’s garage. After high school he spent two years at UW Milwaukee (hated it), then quit and became a VISTA volunteer in the war on poverty (back when we still cared). He spent a year working in Wilmington, Delaware.

After VISTA, Bill moved to San Francisco where he earned a BA and MA in English/Creative writing. But mostly, Bill just enjoyed the city. He was there in 68 – 72, lived in Haight Ashbury, frequented Filmore West, and saw all the major bands ($3 for Led Zeppelin).

When he finished his master’s degree, he joined the Peace Corps and was sent to South Korea where he worked in a county medical center identifying and treating people with tuberculosis.

After two years, he returned to Milwaukee and taught briefly at UWM. He then took a job at the two-year campus in Marinette (since closed). He was there nine years. During that time, he spent his summers working on his PhD in Madison.

One day he met a beautiful redhead named Susan Larrabee, and invited her to go sailing with him. She said “yes.” A year later they were married. They stayed in Madison for a year while he finished his coursework in Education and Computer Science. Then they moved to Marinette and had their first child (Jennifer).

Once he had completed his PhD, Bill was offered a job at UW Stevens Point. They were there thirteen years. Bill and Sue had two more kids (Jeremy and Joanna), and Bill was made chair of the Math and Computing Department. Bill also published two books on computers for the National Council of Teachers of English and a software program (Writer’s Helper) that was popular for eight or nine years.

Once the kids were in grade school, Bill won a Fulbright and took the family to Africa for a year. Bill taught at the University of Namibia, the kids went to the International School, and Sue made many friends. Bill also connected the campus to the Internet. He wrote a book about that effort. It was briefly popular.

Several years after returning to Stevens Point, Bill was offered a job at UW Oshkosh. He spent the next eighteen years there doing a mix of teaching and administrative work. His best years there involved Rotary where he was club president and District Governor and met great people.

Bill retired in 2015. He had been doing some consulting work for a university in Oman, and they asked him to come teach for a year. It was a great opportunity to be immersed in the Muslim culture, and a very beautiful country. It was the perfect way to close out his career.

On his return in 2016, Bill and Sue moved to their new home in Baraboo (Sue’s hometown). They volunteered at the Baraboo Food Pantry and the circus museum and were active in their church.

Bill was killed by cancer, but he lived a great life. He had a large circle of friends, enjoyed the work he did, and had the perfect family. He was always proud of his kids. But of the many marvelous things that happened to Bill, certainly the best was when Sue said she would go sailing. When she stepped onto that tiny sailboat, the best years of Bill’s life began.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sue; three children, Jennifer (Luke) Richard, Jeremy and Joanna; two grandchildren, Noah and Marion Richard; and a brother, John. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Tom.

Memorial services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church, 416 Ash St., Baraboo, Wisconsin, with Pastor David Gilmore officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Baraboo Food Pantry. An Indian Prayer: Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I heard in the winds and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me! I am small and weak, I need your wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught people. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy – myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes so when life fades as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you with no shame.

Kevin Richard Lindahl

Baraboo, WI. – Kevin Richard Lindahl, age 63, of Baraboo, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Kevin entered this world through the normal route on September 14, 1961. The third child of Gordon and Marie Lindahl, he began working on the family dairy farm when he learned to walk. Young Kevin fine-tuned the ability to keep life exciting by defying all authority except his own. His tender heart was often veiled by unappreciated humor, a unique craft he continued to hone until his final hours.

Kevin was a 1979 graduate of St. Croix Falls High School where he lettered in football, track, and wrestling. He diligently continued his education at UW-Stout, graduating with a B.S. in Industrial Technology, where he redefined the meaning of a BS degree. His proudest years as an engineer were at Gilman Engineering in Janesville, Wisconsin. He soon met his future bride, De Anna, with whom he would spend the next 36 years the rest of his life married.

Kevin’s second greatest passion, superceded only by his bride, was hunting and fishing. Starting with his preteen years, hunting and fishing consumed his actions during open season and consumed his dreams during the off season. After a debilitating stroke left him paralyzed on the left side of his body for the last eight years of his life, he still hunted with the help of a chair, tripod, and loving brothers. In 2023, he completed an exotic hunting trip in Texas, a lifelong dream checked off his bucket list.

Kevin is survived by his bride, De Anna Lindahl; his son, Travis Kleifgen; step-son, Robert Grice; siblings, Terry (Darla) Lindahl, Jeanine Weinzierl (Charlie McConnell), Eileen (Paul) Lundberg, Brian (Teresa) Lindahl, and Janet Rudie. Kevin is also survived by several nieces and nephews who learned many life lessons from Uncle Kevin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Marie Lindahl; and his niece, Olivia Lundberg.

A memorial visitation will take place at Baldwin Funeral Services on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you tell someone your favorite joke Kevin shared with you, and eat some Wisconsin fish and venison this week.

Richard Dean “Rick” Mortensen

Baraboo, WI. - Richard Dean “Rick” Mortensen, age 65, of Baraboo, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at a friend’s home.

Rick was born on June 14, 1959 to Charles and Evelyn (Farr) Mortensen in Baraboo, WI. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick, a man whose kindness, strength, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone he met.

Rick drove over-the-road semi for many years. He used to build and race his own cars and raced them at Dells Motor Speedway. Rick was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. Whether you were family, friend, or stranger, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. His heart was as big as his knowledge of the things he loved most - especially motors. Rick could take an engine apart and put it back together with the kind of ease that only comes from true passion and years of dedication.

Outside the garage, Rick found peace in the quiet of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, always chasing the next sunrise on the water or a quiet moment in the woods. Nature was his sanctuary, and he cherished every moment spent in it.

More than anything, rick loved his family. His siblings held a special place in his heart, and he carried that bond with pride and deep affection. His laughter, stories, and steady presence will be missed more than words can express. Though he may be gone from this world, the memories Rick leaves behind will live on; in the sound of a motor running smoothly, in the stillness of a quiet lake, and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest easy Rick, you were one of the good ones. Here’s to you Rick, with a smile and a thumbs up.

Rick is survived by five brothers, Don, Tom (Judy), David, Jeff (Shelly), Kevin; three sisters, Karen Rathman, Patricia (husband, Jeff Kolls) Mortensen, Julie Mortensen of Arizona; special friend, June “Junebug” Ramsey; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and so many other dear friends.

Preceded in death are his parents, Charles and Evelyn Mortensen; sisters, Dianne Rathman and Kathy Sutton; sisters-in-law, Sandy and Margaret; brother-in-law, Dave Rathman; nephew, Jeff Mortensen; and niece, Tina Rathman.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Baldwin Funeral Services, 520 East St., Baraboo, WI, with Pastor Randy Zeman officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the family of Rick Mortensen. A celebration of Rick’s life will take place at a later date and time.

Xavier James Jaczynski

Merrimac, WI. - Xavier James Jaczynski, 23, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Merrimac, Wisconsin. Born on March 6, 2002, in Forrest City, Arkansas, Xavier brought light and laughter into the world from the very beginning.

Xavier graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 2020. Throughout his life, he was known for his vibrant spirit, boundless energy, and the deep love he held for his family and friends. Growing up, Xavier found joy and freedom at the skate park, where he spent countless hours perfecting tricks and building friendships. As he got older, his passion for longboarding took him on quiet rides through town or spontaneous adventures with friends.

He loved being outdoors—hiking at Devil’s Lake or simply being anywhere surrounded by people he cared about. Whether it was hanging out with friends and family, playing games, or grabbing a bite to eat (something he was always up for), Xavier embraced life with enthusiasm. But nothing captured his heart quite like his car. He poured time and care into making it fast and loud—cruising for hours with music blasting and frequent stops at Kwik Trip.

Xavier’s presence was magnetic. He had a generous heart and a sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest days. His quick wit and playful charm left lasting impressions on everyone he met. He offered comfort freely and loved deeply—always ready to lift someone up or share a laugh when it was needed most.

Xavier’s journey also included struggles that many face but few talk about openly. He lived with the disease of addiction—a battle he never chose but fought with courage and determination. For 12 of 18 months, Xavier found success in recovery. He committed himself to detox programs, therapy sessions, treatment centers, and Narcotics Anonymous meetings. For ten months, he worked diligently through a recovery program. Despite his strength and effort, the weight of trauma and mental illness made his path difficult.

Addiction is not a reflection of character—it is an illness that does not discriminate. Xavier did not want to be an addict; no one does. His story is a powerful reminder that those who struggle with addiction are deserving of love, compassion, and understanding. Xavier was not defined by his disease—he was defined by his love for others, his laughter, his resilience, and the countless lives he touched.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: parents, Rhiana and Mike Stowell; father, Keith Price; half-sister, Addison Price; grandmothers, Grandma Jane and Jann Price; Nona Peggy Jaczynski; grandparents, Danny and Wanda Stowell; great-grandfather, Gerald Jaczynski; great-grandmother, JoAnn Salava; aunts and uncles, Andrew and Heather Jaczynski, Joshua Jaczynski, Erika Fiting and Michael Cooper, Elizabeth and Kyle Henderson, Rachel and Nick Sarris, Ryan Kinsey, Sarah and Jason Long; along with numerous cousins and extended family who loved him dearly.

He joins in eternal rest great-grandparents, Delores and Bernard Frey, Dorine Jaczynski, Bea Stowell, George and Dorothy Scott, Ron Salava; grandparents, Michael Jaczynski, Steve Salava, Ross Marion, Thomas Sammons; great-aunt, Carol Zerzycki; cousins, Adiana Fiting, Rayce Raschka, Michael and Cassie Zerzycki; as well as many other beloved family members and friends who have gone before him.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Baldwin Funeral Services located at 520 East St., Baraboo, Wisconsin 53913. A memorial service will follow from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. noon at the same location. There will be time during the service to share stories and special memories of Xavier.

Xavier’s life reminds us all to lead with kindness—to see beyond struggle into the heart of a person filled with love and light. May we honor him by offering grace to others as freely as he did.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and strength to those still fighting their own battles.

Joshua Mueller

Portage, WI. – Joshua Mueller, a lifetime resident of Portage, died on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the young age of 28, with his loving family by his side. Joshua leaves behind his parents, John “Hans” Mueller and Kathleen “Katie” Mueller; grandmother, Marbeth Doughtery; and numerous aunts, uncles and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patrick Doughtery, John and Patricia Mueller; and many great-aunts and uncles.

Born into a farming family, Joshua enjoyed the country living with its small-town values. With the rumble of tractors in the fields, cows mooing and chickens squawking, the relaxed farm life was prefect for him.

Diagnosed with autism at an early age, he would struggle being non-verbal all his life. Homeschooled from the age of six, he showed an aptitude for speed reading and physics. Joshua loved his Star Wars action figures and light sabers. His cousins would engage him in battles playing with him on his level. He collected everything from batman and robin, spiderman, scooby doo and dinosaurs, to rudolph the red nose reindeer and army guys. He always had toys clutched in his hands or lined up in a row. He loved going to Walmart to pick-out toys and stopping at McDonalds for chicken nuggets and French fries.

As Joshua grew older, he became a big burly guy but kept the sweet innocence of a little boy still believing in Santa. He loved to watch Christmas movies year round and decorating the Christmas tree. He loved grandma’s cookies and cherry pie. He was a joy in our lives and we loved him so deeply. We were blessed to have him in our lives.
