Evan
Ronald Sorge, age 81, of Baraboo, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at
St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo. Evan was born on Sept 19, 1937 to
Leonard and Laura (Ninnemann) Sorge in Reedsburg. The family moved to Baraboo
when Evan was young and he called the Baraboo hills home for his lifetime. On
July 23, 1971 Evan married Norma “Betsy” Copper in Baraboo and they enjoyed 31
years together. She preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 2001.
Evan worked
as a purchasing manager for Olin Corporation at Badger Army Ordinance
Ammunitions and retired after a long career where he had developed long
standing friendships. Some of his hobbies included local hunting, traveling to
Alaska, Newfoundland and Canada for hunting, ice and big water fishing, and
feeding the deer, birds and gardening.
Evan loved his children, grandchildren,
and family members as well as his Labrador retrievers and all of nature. He was
a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo and will be dearly
missed by family and friends. Survivors include his children, Kellie Sorge Zink
(Greg Hochstein) of North Freedom, Traci (Craig) Rothenburger of Endeavor, Eric
(Linda) Sorge of North Freedom; stepchildren, Kathy Ott of Baraboo, Patricia
(Larry) Petersen of Baraboo, Tom Ploof of Chippewa Falls, Paula Flynn (Bob
Gisvold) of Rozellville, Tim Ploof (Becky Pfaff) of Rock Springs, David Ploof
of Baraboo, Mike (Connie) Ploof of Goodyear, Arizonia; his brother, Rollin
(Patricia) Sorge; a son-in-law, Bill Hildebrand of Baraboo; special friend,
Betty Hull;
his Labrador, Gusty; as well
as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Evan was preceded in death by
a son-in-law, John Voss; step-daughter, Mary Hildebrand; step-son, Steven Ploof;
daughter-in-laws, Deanna Ploof and Elaine Ploof; and a niece, Khristina Sorge. Memorial
services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at St. John’s
Lutheran Church, 624 East St., Baraboo, with Pastor Tim Kuske officiating. Visitation
will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service.
Inurnment will take place in Rock Hill Cemetery in the Township of Baraboo. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to be distributed to
various organizations Evan supported. The family wishes to thank the staff at
St. Clare Meadows for the excellent care given to Evan during his stay. Baldwin
Funeral Services, 520 East St., Baraboo, is assisting the family with
arrangements.
