Harriet Emery

Harriet Emery, 94, of Baraboo, passed
away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 at St. Clare Hospital with her
daughters and granddaughter by her side. Harriet was born on Oct. 21, 1924 in
Reedsburg, the daughter of Rolland and June (Butterfield) Cushman. Harriet
graduated from Sauk County Normal School of Teaching where she received her
teaching certificate. She taught in a one room school house in Sauk County
prior to her marriage. On Nov. 27, 1946 she married David Emery. He preceded
her in death on Dec. 13, 1966. Harriet was a mother and homemaker
for many years. She also provided childcare and housekeeping services for
several prominent families. She considered all of them as extended family.
Later in life, Harriet enjoyed many volunteering opportunities. She retired
from some of them at age 80 to spend time with her great-grandchildren. Her
passion however was Circus World where she volunteered for 30 years retiring
after the 2017 season. Survivors include her daughters,
Nancy (Ed) Barczak of Appleton, Lorraine (Kurt) Casson of Baraboo;
grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Wedekind of Wisconsin Dells and Christopher
(Holly) Casson of Sun Prairie; great-grandchildren, Andy and Sarah Wedekind,
Adalyn and Oliver Casson; two very special nieces, Janet Cushman and Laurie
Miller; sister-in-law, Selma Ruda. In addition to her parents and
husband, Harriet was preceded in death by her grandson, John Barczak; and a
brother, Neal (Arlene) Cushman. A celebration of her life will take
place at a later date. Memorials may be given to Circus World or the American
Cancer Society in her memory. The family would like to give special thanks to St. Clare
Meadows and St. Clare Hospital for the care given to Harriet. Baldwin Funeral
Services, 520 East St., Baraboo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
