Audrey Marie McCarthy

Audrey Marie McCarthy, 83, of Merrimac, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 at UW Hospital in Madison. Audrey was born on Jan. 7, 1936 in Vesper, the daughter of Harold and Doris (Winch) Brockman. Audrey attended a one room school house in Altdorf and progressed her education by attending nursing school at St. Mary’s in Wausau and obtained her bachelor degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee. While attending Marquette, she met the love of her life Thomas McCarthy and they were united in marriage on Sept. 12, 1959. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2013. Together, they raised their five children before retiring to Lake Wisconsin. Audrey was very active in her community and at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida and Diamond Lake in northern Wisconsin. She deeply loved her family and enjoyed visiting with her many friends. Survivors include her five children, Michael (Barb) McCarthy, Patrick (Edie) McCarthy, Robert (Jennifer) McCarthy, Kevin (Rachel) McCarthy, Colleen (Rob) Scheibel; 16 grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Rachel Lamb, Duane Brockman, Russel (Arlene) Brockman, Kenneth (Carol) Brockman, Mary Knuth, Ruth Mead, Eileen Schields; sister-in-law, Beverly Brockman; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Audrey was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas; and brother-in-laws Earl Lamb, Gerry Knuth and Cecil Mead. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Baraboo, with Fr. Jared Holzhuter officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery. Baldwin Funeral Services, 520 East St., Baraboo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
