Dorothy "Dottie" Slota

Dorothy “Dottie” Slota, 93, of
Baraboo, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in
Madison with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born on March 14, 1924 in
Thorp, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Bogumill) Neiman. She was a graduate
of North Division High School in Milwaukee and returned to Thorp where she met
Robert William Slota. They were united in marriage on May 22, 1947 at St.
Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2003.
Prior to living in Baraboo, Dorothy
and Bob lived in Madison where he graduated from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison in 1947. They moved to Baraboo and Dorothy worked as a
bookkeeper at the Baraboo National Bank until her retirement.
Dorothy was a devoted member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church and was active on the Art and Environment committee, the
council of Catholic Women, and the Daughters of Isabella. Family and friends
were always a first priority and she enjoyed nature, playing golf and bridge, crafting,
gardening, and the Art Angels painting group. She firmly believed in providing
community service to her friends and neighbors.
In addition to her parents and
husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen.
Dorothy is survived by her two
children, Paul (Nancy Thompson) Slota of Middleton and Mary Jane (Kurt)
Saldutti of Palm Bay, Florida; three grandchildren, Katie Slota of Fort
Collins, Colorado, James and Samantha Bolin of Sparta, Tennessee; one
great-grandchild, Henry Koontz of Fort Collins, Colorado; a sister, Ruth
Chapman of Watertown; two brothers, Joseph (Claire) Neiman of Baraboo and
William (Marsha) Neiman of Nashville, Tennessee; and several nieces, nephews
other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m on
Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Baraboo, with Fr. Jared
Holzhuter officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until
time of Mass. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. on Friday at the church in memory of Dorothy. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Building Fund or a charity
of one’s choice. The Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., Baraboo, is
assisting the family with arrangements.
