Virginia May Richards

West Baraboo - Virginia May Richards, 99, of West Baraboo, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017 at St. Clare Hospital.
Virginia was born on Sept. 29, 1918 in Baraboo, the daughter of Walter and Gladys (Hocum) Schacht. Virginia graduated from Baraboo High School in 1936 and began working at the Hershinger Insurance Agency as a secretary. On Aug. 15, 1940, she married Lester Ira Richards at her parent’s home in Baraboo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1998.
Virginia was a homemaker most of her life and she enjoyed raising Boston terriers. She was an outdoors person; being an avid hunter, which includes hunting squirrel, rabbits, deer, pheasant and raccoon. Virginia also enjoyed trout fishing. She and Lester loved to dance every Saturday night at the Frolics in Portage. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia “Pat” (Robert) Frank, of West Baraboo; five grandchildren, John (Tracy) Niles of Baraboo, Robert (Erin) Niles of East Bristol, Beverly (Jason) Terry of Baraboo, Michael (Shaoping) Richards of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kelly (Sidney) Scoville of Richland Center; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew Powell, Drake, Garrett, Lily, Niles, Taz, Wiley, and Freya Scoville, Leo Xial “Richards” and daughter-in-law, Sandy Richards of Baraboo.
In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her son, Jim Richards; a brother, Walt Schacht; and a granddaughter, Lynn Graham.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, Baraboo, with Pastor Thomas Dunbar officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place in Walnut Hill Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sauk County Humane Society Baraboo. The Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., Baraboo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
