John "Jack" M. Rau
John “Jack” M. Rau, 79, of Baraboo, formerly of Milwaukee, was born to eternal life on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Jack was born on April 28, 1934 in Baraboo, the son of John E. and Marguerite (Marquardt) Rau. He was a graduate of Baraboo High School and enlisted in the United State Navy where he served his country during the Korean war. After returning home, Jack moved to Milwaukee where he married Ruth Ayotte on March 15, 1965. She preceded him in death in September of 1999. Jack began his career as a clerk with the U.S. Postal service in Milwaukee. He worked at the main post office until retiring after 32 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on his computer, reading, endulging in history, playing golf and watching baseball. Jack is survived by two brothers, Donald (Martha) Rau of Salinas, Calf., Harold “Butch” (Judy) Rau of Baraboo; two sisters, Dorothy (Herman) Sfhistner of Muskegon, Mich., Katherine “Totsie” Jackson of Baraboo; sister-in-law, Jeanne Rau; brother-in-law, Jerry Cady; three step-children, Wally (Mary) Anderson, Mike (Sandy) John, and Scott (Colleen) John; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews other relative and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Bud” Rau; a sister, Marilyn Cady; nephew, David Jackson; and a grand-nephew, Alan Jackson. Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., in Baraboo, with David Wall officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10 am until time of service. Interment will take place in Walnut Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by VFW Greenwood Memorial Post 987. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Clare Meadows Care Center for the love and care given to Jack.
