Joan "Jody" D. (Goad) Volz
Joan “Jody” D. (Goad) Volz, age 80, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at her home in Baraboo surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous 14-month battle with cancer. Jody was born on Jan. 28, 1933 in Richland Center, the daughter of Dorothy and Clifford Goad. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Kenneth “Ken” Volz. Jody and Ken spent 63 glorious years together raising their children, Josee, Jerry and Kurt. She also had worked at Sales Motivators and Snow White Garment. Jody enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and good times with family and friends at their cabin in Phillips. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, playing cards (including Euchre and Bridge) and quilting with the St. Paul’s Quilters. She was a volunteer for the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Baraboo Elks Lodge No. 688. After retirement, Ken and Jody spent many wonderful years traveling the U.S. and Canada. She is survived by her beloved family, her husband, Ken; her daughter, Josee Mathews of Minneapolis, Minn.; her sons, Jerry (Jane) Volz of Prior Lake, Minn., and Kurt (Carla) Volz of Kenosha; her granddaughters, Crystal (Nick) Davila and Jenny Garlington, all of Texas, Katie Volz of Madison, Michelle Volz of Palo Alto, Calif., Sara Pfile of Baraboo, Becky (Ryan) Baltazar of Pleasant Prairie, Jennifer (Ryan) Korman, and Kim Schnell of Kenosha; and her grandson, Matthew Volz of Minneapolis, Minn.; five great-grandchildren, Ruby, Nicholas, Cameron, and Brandon of Texas, and Logan of Pleasant Prairie; her brother, Jerry (Mary) Goad of Janesville; her sisters, Virginia (Ginny) Falnes of Rockford, Ill, and Roberta Schumacher of Milwaukee; and many other dear relatives; and friends. Jody was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita (Boyd) Rynes; brothers, Gene, Jim, and Gordy Goad; and her parents, Dorothy and Clifford Goad. A Funeral and Celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 727 8th St., in Baraboo, with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, in Rock Springs, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jody’s name, may be given to the American Cancer Society, or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 727 8th St., Baraboo, WI. 53913. The Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., in Baraboo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
