Hazel L. “Hazie” (Corcoran)
Leonard, 88, of Baraboo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at
her home surrounded by her children. Hazel was born on Nov. 9, 1930 in
Madison, the daughter of John and Lottie (Haakenstad) Corcoran. She grew up in
a small house with seven siblings without running water or electricity that her
father built at Quarry Park on a homesteaded piece of land. They all attended
West School. She was the last surviving member of the family of 10 that lived
there for 70 years. After graduating high school,
Hazel was united in marriage to Eldan L. Leonard on July 24, 1948. They moved
to Baraboo in 1953 to be the owners of the Fox Hill Inn until 1965. Hazel then
worked as a data entry processor at Badger Ordnance, Baraboo Foods and retired from
Wisconsin Dairies in 1992. Hazel enjoyed cooking and
especially trying new recipes from her extensive cookbook collection. She and
Eldan spent many fun filled hours camping, fishing, bird watching, and enjoying
the outdoors with family and friends. She loved having parties for family,
visiting with company, and garage sales. Her love of her family was like no
other but she always made sure to take care of anyone who needed it, family or
not. She is survived by three children,
Terry Vanduch (Dave), Vance Leonard (Suzanne), Tona Leonard (David); seven
grandchildren, Derrick Vanduch (Nyra), Jennifer Vanduch Smith (Scott), Moonflower
Vanduch, Shawna Earle, Katie Leonard, Crystal Crenshaw (Derek), Taylor Crenshaw
(Brianna); 14 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Derrick, Scout, Thomas, Klaryssa,
Tariq, Corbin, Trinitee, Casey, Codey, Brittney, Janessa, Cassidie, Drake and Tayson; two
great-great-grandchildren, Silas and Liam; two sister-in-laws, Janet Leonard
Hand and Colleen Corcoran Savage; and other nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends. In addition to her parents and
husband, Hazel was preceded in death by a son, Benny Jay Leonard; seven siblings
and their spouses, June “Doll” (John), Jackie, Bessie (Bob), Doris ”Dude”
(Harry), Donald “Doc” (Marion), Harold “Dukie”
and James “Jimmy”. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May
17, 2019 at Baldwin Funeral Services, 520 East St., Baraboo, with Mackenzie Colby
officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m.
until time of service. Private inurnment will take place in Walnut Hill
Cemetery.
