Irene Romberg, 87, of Baraboo, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at St. Clare
Meadows Care Center. Hazel was born on March 15, 1927, in Winnipeg Manatoba,
Canada, the daughter of John and Leah (Spark) Currie. On Sept. 20, 1950, she
was united in marriage to Howard A. Romberg at Calvary Temple in Winnipeg Manatoba,
Canada. She was a pastor’s wife, following Howard to North Dakota where she
served for over 40 years in the North Dakota District Council of the Assembly
of God. Hazel was very involved in all aspects of being a pastor’s wife and enjoyed
the challenges and friendships that came with the title. Her door was always
open for family and friends to come and visit. In August of 1992, she and
Howard retired and moved to Baraboo. Hazel was an exceptional cook and
seamstress, and especially enjoyed quality time spent with her children and
grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Survivors
include her husband, Howard of Baraboo; son, Lyndon (Carolyn) Romberg of Eagan,
Minn.; daughter, Sherri (Vince) Martens of Baraboo; five grandchildren, Miche’le
Cortinas, Jennifer Ketterling, Jordan Romberg, Melissa and Timothy Martens;
three great-grandchildren, Jamison Cortinas, Lane Ketterling and Noah Martens; two
brothers, Gordon and Loyd Currie; and other relatives and friends. In addition
to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Clifford
Currie; a sister, Anna May Wiens; and two infant granddaughters. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at One Life Assembly, 1000 11 th
St., in Baraboo, with Pastor Jon Arneson officiating. Visitation will be at the
church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will take place in
Walnut Hill Cemetery. The Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., in Baraboo,
is assisting the family with arrangements.
