Kenneth John Biech
Greenfield Township - Kenneth "John" Biech, age 70, of Greenfield Township, passed away peacefully at his residence after a courageous two year battle with cancer on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 with his wife, Boni; daughter, Annie; and his beloved puppy, Bailee, at his side. John was born on Sept. 13, 1942 in Baraboo, the son of Kenneth A. and Bernice (Belter) Biech. After graduating from Baraboo High School in 1960, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and received his honorable discharge. He owned and operated his farm in the Caladonia Township and farmed with his brother on the family farm in Greenfield Township. In 1990, John was united in marriage to Bonita (Grabow) Durand in Kauai, Hawaii. He went on to work for the United States Dairy Forage Research Center, in Prairie Du Sac, where he worked for over 19 years before retiring. In his spare time, John enjoyed the outdoors with cutting fire wood and hunting on Pine Bluff. He also loved fishing at their cabin on Mystery Lake, near Spooner. John and his family enjoyed participating in Buck Skinner historical re-enactments. He was an avid classic car enthusiast and belonged to the Classic Car Cruisers of Baraboo. In addition, he was a member of the Spirit Lake Mountain Men’s club and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. John is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Bonita; a son, Thad (Randi) Biech of North Freedom; his mother, Bernice Biech of Baraboo; step-children, Scott Durand of St. Cloud, Minn., Tracy Durand and Sheila (Bob) Thornley, all of Spooner, Angela (Mike) Zweck of Baraboo; a brother, Richard (Betty) Biech of Baraboo; five grandchildren, Mason Biech, Joey Durand, Kaylee, Kyra and Levi Thornley; two nieces, Gwen (Nick) Stipetich of Dacula, Ga., Donia (Mike) Meyer of DeForest; great-nieces and great-nephews, Merick, Mesa, Jordan and Jacob. John was preceded in death by his son, Shane; his father, Kenneth; paternal grandparents, Julius (Ida) Biech; and maternal grandparents, Albert (Mable) Belter. A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1120 Draper St., in Baraboo, with Pastor David C. Jensen officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., in Baraboo, and at the church on Friday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be given to the; Shane Daniel Biech Scholarship Fund for the Underprivileged Agricultural Field, the American Cancer Society, or to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Baraboo.
